The city walls was firstly built by Lusignans but Venetians occupied the island and they fortified the walls against strong artillery fire of Ottomans. Also Venetians have dug a 46 metres wide moat and filled it with water in order to strengthen the city defence. The city walls consist of gates, towers, ramps, bastions, depots and stables. The walls also include the Othello building as a inner castle.
